Jordan Petra:

March 8 - 19 2019:
Petra Trek, Hiking highest mountain In Jordan, some other things. :- 6 days tenting plus 2 days camping (tenting, no showers / dare wash up in cold did it anyways), 85 some miles

Well wanted to do this last November, because of some individuals it didn't happen. This time frame was chosen for me based on some individuals advice, who have self appointed themselves to make sure of things for me for the reasons known to them. Just two / three days before the actual date I caught someones infection due their negligence ( as always I am to help myself). With little fever and drastic runny nose and things, boarded the flight as is. Long journey, post reaching the place later in evening just explored town of Madaba. The local sweet shops have wide variety of things and really good. Given it was winter the place was cold and windy, in later some days on trek had kind of mixed weather with chance rain, cloudy, heavy winds, some sand storm & somewhere slides also did occur due rain. Heard of hail and heavy rains in parts with floods too. It looked nice in all weather forms, since was asked the desert cold is different than snow induced cold or freezing rain for that matter. Layer up as per your needs and all is good.

In Madaba (the mosaic city), the church complex & streets have many shops and nice food place.  Shisha is pretty common in most places. Next day was spent exploring city of Jaresh, nicely maintained and the history explained was great. Evening met some group individuals, most of them the next morning during breakfast.

After self exploring archaeological park and the mosque, were transferred to Dana for start of the

trek. Old village of Dana and the route below is nice.Varied landscape, many rock formations, desert walking , some streams and waterfalls, many beetles, sheeps, donkeys yes the Shepherd dogs, scorpion, snake, turtle, dragonflies, butterflies, camels, flowers and nice group of individuals.

After first two days the landscape changed drastically with uphills and climbs, canyons, some river crossing, exploring ruins, small scrambling finally leading to sights of little Petra. Next day was the journey to Petra via monastery and that is a beautiful walk. The horse rides , camel rides, many vendors and one will find real crowds at this final destination. Most of the details can be found anywhere, just make your own memory.

The lady at the archaeological park, the grocery shop owner, sweet shop owner, bakery, taxi driver ( well one was mechanical engineer whose second job was taxi, and other was networking engg. who did travel transfers for ppl), the vendor at the top of the mountain who would offer everyone tea with view, tourism police, salma ( the kid ) , saga (the quiet one), Suleiman (one from Bedouin police tribe) and many more. The trio who was offering donkey ride claiming we are climbing very steep and high.  The Indian food shop owner with nice biryani. Most individuals were very soft spoken, helping nature.  On the go chefs on the trail who would quickly fix tea and meal with few twigs and rocks creating small fire. Mostly with tomatoes, beans, onions, peppers & pita bread.

Next went to Wadi Rum, really amazing area. Lawrence of Arabia, transformers many such movies have been filmed here. Very beautiful rock formations, arches, springs, hikes, climbs. Day one was very windy with sand blowing and rain at places, did hikes around.

Managed to lift half of flag :)
The second day was spent climbing the high arch and the highest mountain in Jordan back to back with camel ride and stargazing to end the day.

Next morning was last day, went to dead sea (water is really rich in minerals, oily and thick) post that explored mount Nibo, the handicraft place with intention of helping those in need and using their talent to create nice articles was great to explore with enthusiastic lady. Besides given it was late in the evening with thousand doubts went to Amman ( were lucky to get chance to see little bit of Amman castle, roman theater, some shops and after couple hours spent went back to Madaba) Next morning flight back reached 19th night 12 pm.

The place is of historic importance and hence very rich in that accord. It has abundance of sunshine at least in wadi rum not very sure but didn't come across of that being used widely as source of energy. Did see wind farms at places. Came across many refugee camps and sights all through. Tourism, mining potash, salt ,silica, cement are some of industries. Various tribes of people. Green houses, tomato farms. Goat cheese etc. With growing influx of people, growing cities, trying to keep the balance with god's grace is a thing.

This was first time in Middle east and it was nice to explore different culture.
